I'm back to drawing Mandala type flowers for awhile. They are a great stress reliever. I may do a Thanksgiving series.
Enjoy!

ATC No. 685 Flower Large was done with a dip pen (Hunt Extra Fine Bow Point, 512), brush (Grumbacher, 178, #1) and ink (Waterman, Intense Black). The dip pens I inherited from my mom keep my fingers out of the frame better then the Micron pens do.

I did not sketch this ATC before beginning. My conscious usually has a plan to start with, but often my subconscious takes the drawing in a different direction…
Well, I did end up deciding to do a quote for Halloween. I thought this quote was fun rather than scary. Also, I felt like drawing a frog...toad...(shrug)
Have a great day wether you're a frog or a toad...

ATC No. 684 Quote Halloween '22 was done with a dip pen (Hunt Extra Fine Bow Point, 512) and ink (Waterman, Intense Black). The dip pens I inherited from my mom keep my fingers out of the frame better then the Micron pens do.

I did sketch this one before committing the sketch to paper in order to make sure the idea I had would work. Even so, periodically my conscious has a plan to start with, but sometimes my subconscious has another idea…

I was trying out my new ink and decided to film my efforts. Waterman Intense Black Ink is a lot thinner than my ancient Daler Rowney Black Acrylic Artists ink, which I anticipated. One being new and for fountain pens and the other being at least ten years old and acrylic. I am almost out of my old ink and I wanted a black that would work in my fountain pens. The Waterman's ink was more half off on an Amazon Lightening Deal, so that's what I bought. It doesn't stick to the nib as thickly and it gives me a finer line, but it flows for about the same length of time. I also have Waterman's Serenity Blue and Tender Purple Ink, so I wasn't flying blind except for how dark the black (some black inks are not actually black, just a very dark blue, and some shortly fade to brown) is and the colors it bleeds in a wash. See photo below.
Notes:
Both of the inks bled out mostly brown. The watercolor paint bled out blue, no surprise there as I know it's blue based.
Here is a sample of brush pens' activation with water - Marvy LePlume II No. 1 Black (Gray, more on the blue side), Tombow N15 Black (brown), and Tombow Fudenosuke WS-BH Black (pigment, brown, mostly on the back of the pad).
The camera was not perfectly level so the bottom of the drawing is out of focus. I did not notice this until I went to edit. Since I do this for fun and to remember what I have drawn, I posted the video anyway. If it bothers you too much, I'm sorry, don't watch :) On a positive note, I am figuring out how to edit out my fingers when they really get in the way and are more irritating or distracting than useful. Keeping my fingers in the frame sometimes, does show I am actually drawing these.
ATC No. 683 Scene with Mushrooms was done with a dip pen (Hunt Extra Fine Bow Point, 512), brush (Grumbacher, 1 , 178), and ink (Waterman, Intense Black, first time I’ve used this black ink). The dip pens I inherited from my mom keep my fingers out of the frame better then the Micron pens do.

I did not sketch this one before committing the sketch to paper nor did I have a reference photo, if that is not obvious. Periodically my conscious has an to start with, but sometimes my subconscious has another idea…
Ghosts is the last of my Halloween series, unless I get inspiration in the next few days. I hope you enjoyed this series of ATC cards.
ATC No. 682 Ghosts was done with a dip pen (Hunt Extra Fine Bow Point, 512) and ink (Daler Rodney, Acrylic Artists Ink, Black 028). Everything is well over ten years old as they have been hanging around for years and I inherited them from my mother… They still work and keep my fingers out of the frame better then the Micron pen does.
Original footage is over 20 minutes reduced to two minutes and thirty seconds on YouTube @ArtsyTheta.

I did a quick sketch of the Ghosts before commencing in order to get the placement of the ghosts where I wanted. This ATC is not truly organic like the flowers are.
ATC No. 681 Wizard was done with a dip pen (Hunt Extra Fine Bow Point, 512) and ink (Daler Rodney, Acrylic Artists Ink, Black 028). Everything is well over ten years old as they have been hanging around for years and I inherited them from my mother… They still work and keep my fingers out of the frame better then the Micron pen does.

ATC No. 680 Pumpkin 2 was done with a dip pen (Hunt Extra Fine Bow Point, 512) and ink (Daler Rodney, Acrylic Artists Ink, Black 028). Everything is well over ten years old as they have been hanging around for years and I inherited them from my mother… They still work and keep my fingers out of the frame better then the Micron pen does.

I did a quick sketch of the Pumpkin before commencing in order to get the proportions more correct. This ATC is not truly organic like the flowers are. Even so I missed coloring in a spot and had to go back in later and fill it in.
I'm enjoying drawing these shorter ATC sketches after doing organic flowers. The flowers are a good stress reliever and relaxing. Themed cards are fun... and so are quote ATCs.
Have a great day!

ATC No. 678 Witch was done with a dip pen (Hunt Extra Fine Bow Point, 512) and ink (Daler Rodney, Acrylic Artists Ink, Black 028). Everything is well over ten years old as they have been hanging around for years and I inherited them from my mother… They still work and keep my fingers out of the frame better then the Micron pen does. The focusing was a bit off, I did not keep my fingers far enough out of the frame, I apologize for that.

I got a bit more fiddly with this one, lots of little bits.
ATC No. 676 Flower Large was done with a dip pen (Hunt Extra Fine Bow Point, 512), brush (Grumbacher, 1 , 178), and ink (Daler Rodney, Acrylic Artists Ink, Black 028). Everything is well over ten years old as they have been hanging around for years and I inherited them from my mother… They still work and keep my fingers out of the frame better then the Micron pen does.
Original footage about an hour and 1/6 (I missed about 20 minutes of drawing, so the card took about an hour and a half) reduced to two minutes and thirty seconds on YouTube, @ArtsyTheta.

I do not sketch these out beforehand, the grow organically from the center out. Sometimes my conscious has a center idea to start with, but my subconscious has another idea…

I am trying to get to No. 700 by the end of the year.
This time I did much better at keeping my fingers out of the frame and the focusing was better.
